Wheaton College has filed suit against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, joining a growing group of religious institutions that is protesting the Obama administration?s rule that requires most employers to cover contraceptives as part of their health-insurance plans. The Illinois evangelical college?s lawsuit, filed on Wednesday, says the rule violates the institution?s religious beliefs. The complaint adds that the rule creates uncertainty about Wheaton?s ability to offer health insurance to its employees beyond 2012, thus placing the college at a ?competitive disadvantage? in its efforts to recruit and retain employees. The college is calling its lawsuit the ?first-ever partnership between Catholic and evangelical institutions to oppose the same regulation in the same court.?
